(Europe) Important changes to the Purple RADIUS servers

As part of our ongoing migration from Amazon Web Services (AWS) to the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) there is a requirement to change the RADIUS configuration on your hardware. We've detailed the change below to ensure you're up to speed.

What is changing and why?

-----------------------------

Due to the physical relocation of our RADIUS servers a change of host/IP is required to your wireless controller, AP or cloud configuration.

When is it changing?

-----------------------------

You can make the change any time from now. At present, we are transparently routing all RADIUS traffic through the existing servers. However, this introduces a slight delay in the authentication journey and therefore, by changing the details straight away, you'll benefit from an immediate speed increase for your end users.

We appreciate that some customers require advanced notice of changes, and as such we're providing two months notice from today.

Therefore, it's really important that you make the change by 30th August 2019 to avoid any disruption. Again, better still if you can make the change as soon as possible.

What do I need to do?

-----------------------------

Log in to your wireless hardware, be that your controller, AP(s) or cloud service and modify the RADIUS servers that are currently in use.

Depending on your hardware type, you'll either be using a host name or an IP.

If you are using host names, please modify:

Primary RADIUS server

OLD
NEW
rad1.venuewifi.net
rad1-eu.venuewifi.net

Secondary RADIUS server

OLD
NEW
rad2.venuewifi.net
rad2-eu.venuewifi.net

or if you are using IP's, please modify:

Primary RADIUS server

OLD
NEW
54.217.112.62
35.230.139.41

Secondary RADIUS server

OLD
NEW
176.34.118.13
35.246.18.82

Additionally, if you have any existing firewall rules on your network to allow RADIUS traffic, please ensure you add the two new IP's above on UDP ports 1812 and 1813.

Are there any other benefits?

-----------------------------

Yes! As part of this change we implemented a multi-region RADIUS deployment. This means that we now have multiple RADIUS servers installed in the Europe, Americas and Asia Pacific region.

This has the added benefit of additional resilience and a faster access journey for your end users - as your wireless hardware will now be talking to a local RADIUS server rather than our current global European one.

This is estimated to cut down the authentication part of the access journey by several seconds.
