How do you provide usage tracking?

We currently track usage by looking at DNS requests (if using our content filtering service) and RADIUS accounting.

Every DNS request is logged against the external IP of the connection (and therefore linked to a venue/AP), along with the date/time of the request, whether the request was accepted or blocked and why it was blocked.

We also use RADIUS accounting to track individual MAC addresses of devices, the AP Mac address, when they logged in, how long they remained online for, and how much data was downloaded and uploaded.

Reports in the Portal show which sites have been most requested and blocked, and which categories of domains have been most requested and blocked.
